What are industrial robots

What are the differences between a robot and an ordinary machine? Generally, a machine completes work through manual control but a robot can complete some repeated and complex work automatically after setting its program, for instance, handling, stacking, adhesive application and welding. How does a robot work?

Industrial robots can have different pickers at their arm ends for operation. The most common picker is parallel clamper, which clamps goods through parallel movement. The other is arc type clamper that picks up goods through opening and closing its jaw along the central point. And there are three-jaw, vacuum and magnetic clampers. Different pickers can be selected as per different utilization purposes.

Tack Welding

Tack welding is to weld two metal places together through pressure and heat from heavy current. Welding torches become bigger and bigger to meet welding of different materials with various thicknesses. When using a robot for tack welding, its welding speed can be 3 to 5 times faster than that of manual welding.

Arc Welding

Arc welding connects metals through current in the air. During welding, temperature can be up to 5,000-6,000 Kelvins (4,726-5,726°C. Therefore, arc welding is a very dangerous work. The dangerous operation can be avoided by replacing manual welding with robots.

Coating

Coating refers to spray paint to surfaces of objects and plays a role in beauty and protection. Physical health of human will be harmed in the environment with volatile chemical solvent for a long time and quality of coating is unstable. If industrial robots are applied to coating, they will not be affected in the environment for a long time and quality output can be maintained. This helps enterprises to improve efficiency and reduce reject ratio.

Advantages of Industrial Robots

People do not like work in hot, damp and noisy places. Long-term repeated work will lower people’s attention and increase reject ratio of products. Welding and coating also require people with certain specialized knowledge. Therefore, the industrial scene has many work posts but insufficient workers. Robots are the optimal plan to solve these issues and they can also complete some work requiring precise machining, with higher accuracy than manpower, for instance, electronic and semi-conductor industries.
